Braves win the Championship
After having a number of very respectable regular seasons and reaching the
semifinals, a
deeper Braves squad lead the 2014 regular season from start to finish winning their
first
Championship as the Braves and 3rd in their history.
The Braves toughest test would come in the semi-finals facing a hungry and improved
Jays
squad.
The regular season saw the Jays take the season series 2-1 and the semi-finals would
also
be close going the full 5 games.
The Jays won game 4 to force a fifth and deciding game. Game 5 saw the Braves starter
James
Fensom get into a groove early and cruise through the first few innings but would be
forced to leave the game with a sprained ankle. The Braves bullpen lead by Mike
Visconti
and strong defense would step up to close out game 5, 3-2 to advance to their first
Final
since 2006.
The finals reunited the Braves and the Astros who would meet for the third time in
the SABL
finals. The Astros finished the regular season just 1.5 games back from first place
and
beat the Royals in 5 games to advance to the Finals.
With rainouts, and the City Park permit expiring, the Finals were in jeopardy of
being completed.
However, the Finals would be played but with a lot less of dramatics than the
Semifinals.
A total team effort lead and potent Braves offence would explode for a total of 65
runs
over the 4 games to win the 2014 SABL Championship.
