Dragons: Predicted Record (26-4-1)
Adam Johnston has really made good Time this year with his recruiting class. They have improved both their baseball and curling skill in one foul East York swoop. The addition of Pat Jansson, Dominican guy, and some unknown pickups make them the favorites to three-peat. Talented, dedicated and hated is a bad combination to beat. Injuries may play a factor on the chances of the Dragons to capture their third SABL championship. Avoid until the finals at all costs.
Key additions – Pat Jansson, Dominican guy trying to play for free
Key departures – Luke Wilson
Royals: Predicted Record (22-9)
The finalist of the last 2 years have again recruited strongly and look mighty tough, but maybe not as hungry as in previous times. Literally. Judging by the weight scales most have not missed many meals over the winter.
They still have the best defense in the league. That alone almost guarantees the Royals a place in the semi-finals. You really want no part of them until the finals, and then you gotta hope that your games are both early morning and right after Brown’s birthday bash.
Key additions – Oneal Watson, Chris Theodoru, some EY dude until EY finds out
Key departures – Shawn Carriere
Astros: Predicted Record (19-12)
While other teams like the Royals get bigger, the Astros get smaller by adding the diminutive Brandon Marini. Another good arm and bat to an already strong lineup. The Astros are another team that always seem to find a way of being in the top half of the league. They lose Sean Atkinson and Jayar Green for a full season(well 2 half seasons). They added some new talent and again will be dangerous in the playoffs.
Late note: Soolate Singh may make 15 game minimum
Key additions – Brandon Marini
Key departures – 0.5 of Jayar Green and Sean Atkinson
Reds: Predicted Record (18-13)
A change in league direction to wood bats may just light a fire under Mike Dymond to push the Redbrids over the top to the promised finals before the winds of change in 2013. Some secretive changes to the roster, some fire sales of metal on Craigslist and another run in the playoffs that may end better this fall.. Only time will tell if these changes will bring the Redbirds to the Promised Land.
Key additions – Wood bats
Key departures – Metal bats
Psycho Braves: Predicted Record (17-14)
The Psycho Braves have had a huge change to their lineup. They are still a very beefy team even with the loss of Russ Forster, Chris Miall and Ryan Lane. Is is a more subdued gentler Psycho/Brave Bob team. The uniforms are softer, Dexter has mellowed, the dugout smells like lilacs.
But then again the season has not started. Rumor has it that Psycho Bob is making a comeback until Dexter pulls him from the game where he has a chance at a win again. Then retirement again looms.
Key additions – 0.1 of Bob Clarke
Key departures – Russ Forster, Ryan Lane, Chris Miall
Red Sox: Predicted Record (13-15-3)
Red Sox have gone backwards for a couple of years and have even entertained the Thursday faithful with time in the last 2 elimination games. They have recruited aggressively in the offseason and have even threatened to bring back the ghetto blaster and Travis Young only because they will play 30 games. Sorry Morty!!
Key additions – NA
Key departures – NA
Mets: Predicted Record (12-15-4)
Spanish Harlem in Scarborough just got a little smaller over the winter as some of the Latino contingent stayed home for the summer. But smaller additions in Dave Stermole and Shane Martin may just overcome Latino losses. At the very least it will avoid any fiscal austerity measures in the Met clubhouse. Where are you Fausto Cormona or whatever your name is?
Key additions - Dave Stermole, Jon Collins, Ed Elford
Key departures – Fausto Carmona, Argenis Bargas, Junior Medium Alcala
Greatest of all Time: Predicted Record (10-21)
The Greatest have made steady progress every year they have been in the SABL. Last year they even won their first playoff game much to the delight of the elimination day faithful. Still young, and still learning how to score keep they should make the jump to double digit wins this coming season. Only problem is that Anthony Warren is eligible for free agency at the end of the season and both the Braves and the Dragons have been seen hanging around the Goats clubhouse after games.
Key additions - NA
Key departures – Some not to Great players
White Sox: Predicted Record (7-24)
Rich Singh has again to pull another rabbit out of his dime bag. They lost their best arm, have a recuperating shortstop, and the grow-op got busted in early April. This may make it too hard for the Sox to overcome in one year. But if one thing is a certainty in the SABL is the smell of team spirit after each Sox game(well that and one made up mystery call by Jeff every year that is not in the rule books)
Key additions – NA
Key departures – Brandon Marini
Jays: Predicted Record (7--24)
The difference in this years Jay team may be greater than the size differential in Adam Morton(the real Adam Morton) and Jessie Steinman. They have no more big boppers or somebody to light a fire anymore( under the team or the field). However, give them a couple of years of recruiting and the promise of wood bat games, and they may be at the top end of the division before too long. Of course their division may include the sixth to tenth place teams.
Key additions – The Gabe(just kidding)
Key departures – Adam Morton, Jeremy Brittain,
